Harry Potter series is an obsession for all those who have had the opportunity to read this magical series. For those who have not read it, it is difficult to understand what the hype for this wizarding world is all about. People assume that the series is for the children but believe me I am still as obsessed (maybe even more) as I was when I was a child. There is a lot to learn from this wonderful series. Here is a list of some inspiring quotes to motivate you at any stage of life and to welcome you to the world of ”Magic” :
- For those with any kind of Inferiority Complex: Sometimes we are bothered with other’s opinion of ourselves and feel insecure about ourselves. In such case take the advice of Prof. Rubeus Hagrid gave in Goblet of Fire. “I am what I am, an’ I’m not ashamed. ‘Never be ashamed,’ my ol’ dad used ter say, ‘there’s some who’ll hold it against you, but they’re not worth botherin’ with.”
- When Facing Difficulty in actually knowing Someone: We often face the dilemma about a person while choosing a friend, a partner or a business associate. We like to understand how a person genuinely is. A little guidance from Sirius Black in the Goblet of Fire can lead the way: “If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals”
- For those who believe the despair will never end: Sometimes in life we feel the utter despair when surrounded by the darkness and refuse to believe that the happiness will find a way. The quote from Albus Dumbledore in The Prisoner of Azkaban can restore the belief: “But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
- When we have Bullies as friends: When our friends are the ones who bully we find it difficult to stop or discourage them in the fear of losing them or being laughed at or even bullied by them. This quote will help us to find the courage to act:“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.” Albus Dumbledore in The Sorcerer’s Stone. We may feel that it is easier said than done and find it very difficult to do, to them Dumbledore encourages in The Goblet of Fire : ”We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy” So folks always do what is right for you and people around you.
- When we wonder who we truly are : Life sometimes brings us to a stage where we are unable to understand who we truly are. Sometimes we are afraid of the bad thoughts we have, when faced with an extreme situation and sometimes we are afraid of what we can do when we are angry. Other times we often feel that the environment we are born in, the people we live with, the caste/culture we are born in will shape us and define us even if we like it or not. When facing this remember the following quotes from Harry Potter series: 1) “We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.” – Sirius Black in The Prisoner of Azkaban. 2) “It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” Albus Dumbledore in The Chamber of Secrets. 3) “It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.” Albus Dumbledore in Goblet of Fire.
- When dealing with Pain: Everyone processes the pain in different manner. Some people numb the pain as they are unable to deal with it and are afraid to open their heart and feel those feelings. As Dumbledore reminds us in Goblet of Fire : “Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it.” Other people find it difficult to express their pain as they feel it makes them weak that they are unable to handle all the pain. To them Dumbledore says in The Order of Phoenix ” Harry, suffering like this proves you are still a man! This pain is part of being human … the fact that you can feel pain like this is your greatest strength.” Then we ask what is the way to recovery Prof. Dumbledore ? ”Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery” So while dealing with pain always remember to feel the pain, cry and let it all out, do not feel ashamed of your feelings as they make you human and understand the cause of pain, accept it and move on.Lastly, when we cry over the things we have lost in life Luna Lovegood reminds us in The Order of Phoenix : “Things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, if not always in the way we expect.”
- To those who do not mince their words and thoughts : Words are mightier than swords. Some people forget that the words can hurt deep, sometimes worse than anything physical abuse can. Words also have power to heal, so one should always think before speaking As our wise Prof. Albus Dumbledore says in the Deathly Hallows ” Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.” Some people are so indifferent to the feelings of others that they forget “Indifference and neglect often do much more damage than outright dislike.” (Albus Dumbledore in The Order of Pheonix.) Other people keep on hurting themselves with negative thoughts and burden themselves with lots of guilt forgetting the words of Madam Pomfrey in The Order of Phoenix ”Thoughts could leave deeper scars than almost anything else”. So remember to be mindful of your words and thoughts both.
- For those who live in dreamy world : A polite howler to remind you “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” – Albus Dumbledore in The Sorcerer’s Stone. Dumbledore also advises us to believe in our mind. Sometimes we wonder whether the things happening inside our head are not real and we doubt our sanity but as the wise man says in the Deathly Hallows : “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
- To those who are afraid of Future : Those who cannot stop worrying of what may come in the future please read : ‘’No good sittin’ worryin’ abou’ it. What’s comin’ will come, an’ we’ll meet it when it does.” Hagrid in Goblet of Fire. Get up and steel your nerves as Ginny Weasley says ”you sort of start thinking anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve.”
- To those who fear the Tyrants : We often fear the tyrants and refuse to believe that anything or anyone could hurt them. We do not realize that even the tyrants have fears. If you do not believe me then I am sure you would believe Prof. Dumbledore ”Have you any idea how much tyrants fear the people they oppress? All of them realise that, one day, amongst their many victims, there is sure to be one who rises against them and strikes back!’ in The Half Blood Prince.
- Generation Gap : It is very difficult to bridge the generation gap. When we get older we forget what it was to be young and are sometimes harsh to the younger generation on things we find inappropriate as per our thinking and experiences .Dumbledore defines it accurately : ‘’Youth cannot know how age thinks and feels. But old men are guilty, if they forget what it was to be young”
- Quotes on Death : To conquer your fear of death last two quotes of this blog from Professor Dumbledore “It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.” in The Half Blood Prince. “To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.” in The Sorcerer’s Stone. Feeling inspired ? Go read the series and those who have already read it hundred times go re-read it “And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.” Ta Da.
