In continuation of the previous blog where we learned some interesting facts on the geography of India, in this blog we shall cover some infrastructural facts of India. Read on to find more reasons to admire this beloved country’s infrastructure :
- The world’s highest cricket ground is in Chail, Himachal Pradesh. Built in 1893, after leveling a Hill Top, this cricket field is 2144 meters above sea level.
- Navi Mumbai is the largest planned city in the world. The city was planned to decongest Mumbai City due to its increasing population.
- About 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower, the arch-shaped Chenab bridge in Jammu and Kashmir is the world’s tallest rail bridge. It stands at the height of 1,178 feet over the river Chenab.
- The world’s highest motorable road is Umling La Pass in Ladakh.
- India has the second largest road network in the world.
- The Taj Mahal located in Agra is one of the seven wonders of the world.
- India has the largest postal system in the world with more than 150,000 post offices, which is thrice the size of that of China. India has the world’s only floating post office on Dal Lake, Sri Nagar. The office provides all regular postal services.
- The Brahadeeshwara Temple is located in the city of Thanjavur that is also known as Tanjore, in the Indian province of Tamilnadu. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is the first granite temple in the world. This magnificent temple was built in 1003 AD by the Chola king Rajaraja I.
- The Statue of Unity is the tallest free-standing statue in the world with an impressive height of 182 meters. This statue is of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who was the first deputy Prime Minster and home minister of independent India. Interestingly India also has the record for the world’s tallest monolithic statue, Gomateshwara (the first Tirthankara of Jainism) located in Shravanabelagola (Karnataka), This statue is carved out of a single rock and is 17 meters tall.
- The top 3 longest railway platforms are located in India. Gorakhpur Railway Platform (Uttar Pradesh) ranks number 1 followed by Kollam Junction Platform (Kerala) and Kharagpur Junction Platform (West Bengal).
- The second largest house in the world is Antilia belonging to Mr. Mukesh Ambani of India. It is also the most expensive residential house in the world after Buckingham Palace.
